Hemorrhoids, also known as piles, is a very common problem faced by adults. It is caused due to an improper or unbalanced diet, pregnancy or due to sitting or standing for long periods of time. It can also be genetic. If not treated, it can cause tremendous pain, bumps to form around the anus, swelling, and even cancer.
Some Home Remedies to Treat Haemorrhoids /piles are as follows:
Ice: Applying an ice pack or partially melted ice wrapped in a cloth to the affected area for ten minutes daily helps to relieve the pain and reduce the swelling.
Aloe Vera: Applying Aloe Vera gel to the anus and massaging for five to ten minutes is very effective. Also, cutting Aloe Vera into strips and laying it on the hemorrhoids helps reduce itching, redness, pain and swelling.
Lemon juice: Lemon contains nutrients that strengthen the capillaries and blood vessels around the anus. Saturate a cotton ball with freshly squeezed lemon juice and apply it on the hemorrhoid. There may be a tingling sensation, but it will subside. Alternatively, you can consume lemon juice in various forms, by mixing with warm milk or honey.
Almond Oil: Almond Oil is used for external hemorrhoid treatment by dipping a cotton ball in pure almond oil and applying it on the affected area. It moisturizes and soothes the affected area.
Olive oil: Rubbing olive oil and the juice of plum leaves gently on the hemorrhoids help reduce inflammation due to antioxidant properties of olive oil. Alternately, you can also consume a spoon of olive oil daily to improve excretion.
Whole grains: Eating whole grains soften stools and improves excretion. This reduces bleeding and pain.
Witch Hazel: The astringent property of witch hazel can help shrink inflamed blood vessels, relieving pain, itching and swelling. Soak a cotton ball in undiluted witch hazel and apply it to the hemorrhoids. Do this at least three times daily to see results.
Apple cider vinegar: The astringent properties of apple cider vinegar, it gives relief from swelling and irritation and helps shrink swollen blood vessels.
Black tea bags: Black tea bags contain tannic acid, a natural astringent that relieves swelling and inflammation. Dip a black tea bag in hot water and remove it from the water and let it cool slightly. Apply the tea bag to the swollen veins for about 10 minutes. Do this two or three times a day. Alternatively, you can also apply cold, used tea bags to the hemorrhoids for 5 to 10 minutes.
Water: The good old fashioned method- drinking 8-10 glasses of water a day. This increases bowel movement and reduces a backlog in excretion. As a result, it improves the condition and reduces pain.
