Add ½ cup of steel cut oats to a microwave safe medium sized bowl. Pour in some water and cook in the oven for 3 minutes or until soft and done. You can add a dash of pineapple or vanilla extract to make your bowl of oats more appetizing. Sprinkle some chopped nuts or flaxseed to balance the carb content. You can also add sliced apples, strawberries and even bananas to up the nutrient content of your morning meal.

For a quick on the go breakfast, you can also try the egg and cheese muffin! Ditch the skillet and cook the egg in the microwave oven. The best part of cooking an egg in the oven is you can do away with all the fat that goes into a skillet. Whisk a large egg or two in a bowl. To this, add finely chopped onions, powdered pepper, tomatoes and yellow bell peppers. Microwave the mixture for a whole minute and set the cooked egg on a whole wheat ready-made burger bread or muffin. And voila, your breakfast is ready. To make it more wholesome, also eat a bowl of fresh cut fruits.

It is high in iron and fibre and low in fat, and is often recommended to those who are convalescing. Pressure cook 1 cup of dalia with four cups of water and a teaspoon of salt and turmeric. To make the recipe quicker, drop in carrots, potatoes and even chopped beans before pressure cooking the dalia. Make your own home made seasoning with ginger, cumin seeds and slit green chillies. Add the seasoning to the broken wheat mixture, stir well and heat for a few more minutes on a low flame. Garnish with coriander and mint leaves and gulp it down!
